True Grit &The “Dude” in the 1800′s ?

I am not ashamed to admit that one of my all time favorite movies is “The Big Lebowski”.

Ever since this was recommended to my by my Biostatistics professor (I know, that is an odd person to get a funny movie recommendation) I have fallen for it’s special type of dark humor.

It is responsible for some great quotes:

  • “At least I’m housebroken”
  • “You want a toe? I can get you a toe, believe me. There are ways, Dude. You don’t wanna know about it, belive me.”
  • “That rug really tied the room together”

Since the Big Lebowski, I have watched Jeff Bridges in just about every movie he has put out. I love the guy as an actor, but I have to admit he is always going to be “The Dude” to me. That was, until he took on the role of Rooster Cogburn.

This was the perfect role, not for Mr. Bridges, but rather for the guy who played the Dude. In so many ways, these two characters are the same. Both have checked out of mainstream society and checked into a bottle of booze. Both have a different outlook on life which is all their own, but down deep are genuine and good men.

I was disapponted to see that it didn’t get more recognition at the academy awards, but I think I will download my first chance on Netflix and watch it with a White Russion in hand.

The Dude abides!
